Best Buy Possesses Hellboy Promo

Moviegoers who can’t wait to see what director Guillermo del Toro has done with Mike Mignola’s Dark Horse comic book series, Hellboy, can stop by Best Buy stores for free promo DVDs. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this marketing first offers 10 minutes of footage from the film, as well as behind-the-scenes featurettes like those commonly found on DVD releases.

The aim of the promotional disc is to attract an audience that is broader than the comic book enthusiast demographic. Since Hellboy is not as well-known a character as Superman, Spider-Man or Batman, Sony Pictures hopes the free DVD preview will familiarize the public with the concept and the history behind the supernatural action flick before it lands in theaters on April 2.

Trailers from the upcoming Sony sequels Spider-Man 2 and Resident Evil: Apocalypse are also included on the promo DVD, which Best Buy reports has been a big hit with customers.

This week saw another marketing first when cable network USA aired the first 10 minutes of Universal’s Dawn of the Dead, the new remake of George Romero’s zombie classic. The exclusive preview ran between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on March 15. The film opens on Friday, March 19.
