Before you get Reloaded, Reach Equilibrium

For sci-fi/action fans who can’t wait for the highly anticipated second installment in the Matrix trilogy, Buena Vista Home Ent. has the perfect fix with the cult gem Equilibrium, a superb actioner debuting today on DVD and VHS.

Featuring visual effects by Digital Firepower, director Kurt Wimmer’s Equilibrium takes place in a post-WWIII world where human emotions are outlawed and citizens are forced to take a drug that prevents them from feeling. Those who resist must deal with the Grammaton Clerics, an elite police force with near-superhuman combat skills. When top cleric John Preston, played by Christian Bale (Reign of Fire, American Psycho), discovers the joys of emotion, he joins the resistance and begins the fight of his life. Taye Diggs (Chicago, Go) and Emily Watson (Punch-Drunk Love, Breaking The Waves) also star.

Equilibrium plays like a re-telling of the classic Ray Bradbury novel Fahrenheit 451 with spectacular, stylized action sequences a la The Matrix. Miramax released the film with little marketing in only a handful of theaters this past winter. Since then, it has built a cult following that is sure to grow with the home video release, which lists for $29.99 on DVD.
