Barbie of Swan Lake Lands at Entertainment Rights

For the third consecutive year, U.K. company Entertainment Rights has been awarded world-wide television and home entertainment rights (excluding North America) to Mattel’s new CG feature Barbie of Swan Lake, animated by Mainframe in Canada.

The previous Barbie titles, Barbie in the Nutcracker and Barbie as Rapunzel have been surprise hits, selling millions of copies on VHS and DVD. Both features have also been televised by major broadcasters including Super RTL in Germany, M6 in France, Mediaset in Italy, TVB Hong Kong, SBS Korea and Network 7 in Australia.

Based on the music of Tchaikovsky and the original story by Pepitov, Barbie of Swan Lake features the leggy blonde doll in the role of Odette, a young baker’s daughter who follows a unicorn into the previously undiscovered Enchanted Forest. There she is transformed into a swan by Rothbart, an evil wizard intent on defeating his cousin, the Fairy Queen, and taking over the forest.

Featuring the voices of Frasier’s Kesley Grammer and Friends’ Maggie Wheeler, the movie combines storytelling and ballet with the motion-captured movements of actual dancers.
