Bandai, Geneon Ink North American Deal
Anime powerhouses Bandai Visual USA Inc. and Geneon Ent. (U.S) have joined forces to distribute Bandai Visual titles on DVD to retailers throughout the U.S. and Canada. The first titles to be released under the pact include multiple volumes of Gunbuster 2, Demon Prince Enma, The Wings of Rean, Freedom and Galaxy Angel Rune. Launch dates of these and other titles are expected to be announced soon.
Under the terms of the two-year agreement, Geneon will be the exclusive distributor of Bandai Visual USA titles released in the U.S. and Canada after March 1, 2007.
“Geneon Entertainment has one of the best reputations in the industry as a distributor of anime titles,” says Tatsunori Konno, president of Bandai Visual USA Inc. “We have great confidence in Geneon’s ability to expand our distribution and give our titles a presence in some of the largest retailers in North America.”
A wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s Bandai Visual Co. Ltd., Bandai Visual USA Inc. was established in 2005 with a mission to facilitate stronger, more active involvement in positioning, marketing and distributing Bandai Visual anime programs in North America. From its base in Torrance, Calif., the company releases titles on DVD and next generation media under its Honneamise label, named after Bandai Visual’s 1987 flagship film.
Headquartered in Long Beach, Calif., Geneon Ent.’s U.S. operation is a subsidiary and joint venture between Tokyo-based advertising giant Dentsu Inc. and d-rights Inc., a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corp.
