Adult Swim Fare, Classic Seuss on DVD

Animation fans have a lot to pick from with today’s crop of home video releases. On the TV side, Warner Home Video offers two debuts from Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim lineup and a collection of favorites from the animated Dr. Seuss library. Space Ghost Coast to Coast Volume 1, The Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume 1, Best of Dr. Seuss and In Search of Dr. Seuss are now available, as is the first feature-length adventure from Fisher Price’s Rescue Heroes.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast Volume 1 contains 16 episodes, with commentary from the show’s creators on select installments. Also included on the two-disc collector’s set are music videos and original show artwork.

Coast to Coast, which debuted in 1994, took former cartoon superhero Space Ghost and turned him into the galaxy’s crankiest talk show host. The guest list for volume one includes the Bee Gees, Ashley Judd, Adam West, Slash, Carol Channing, late Monty Python alum Terry Jones and more.

The Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Volume 1 DVD will also contain 16 episodes, including the original cut of the pilot, Rabbot. The series chronicles the adventures of human-sized food products, Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake, who live together in a rental house in New Jersey.

Both titles list for $29.98 and are being supported with a comprehensive marketing plan targeted at the core audience of men 18-34. National online promotion can be seen on AdultSwim.com, IGN.com, Maxim.com, Atomfilms.com and Ifilm.com.

Just in time to capitalize on this weekend’s release of Universal’s big-screen adaptation of Cat in the Hat, Warner Bros. is outputting Best of Dr. Seuss to DVD. The release includes three animated classics: Horton Hatches the Egg, The Butter Battle Book, and Daisy Head Mayzie. Also making its DVD debut is the documentary In Search of Dr. Seuss, a salute to Theodor Geisel featuring live-action celebrity skits, original musical productions, animation and appearances by Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Christopher Lloyd, Patrick Stewart, Kathy Najimy, David Paymer, Howie Mandel, Eileen Brennan and Matt Frewer. Both titles were released on VHS in the early 90s and list for $19.98 on DVD.

Artisan’s Family Home Ent. (FHE) further adds to the list of animated releases with Rescue Heroes: The Movie, the first CG animated feature film based on the best-selling Rescue Heroes toy line from Fisher-Price.

In the movie, an elite team of rescue personnel led by Billy Blazes, Jack Hammer and Wendy Waters must stop a series of lightning storms from colliding and forming one massive storm that could result in the cataclysmic destruction of the world.

Extra features include bonus episodes from the Rescue Heroes television series and a trailer gallery. It retails for the suggested price of $19.98 DVD and $14.98 VHS.
