THQ Takes Gamers to the Center of the Earth

THQ today announced the worldwide shipping of its handheld video game based on New Line Cinema’s upcoming CG-laden adventure film Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D, which hits theaters on July 11. Available exclusively for the Nintendo DS, Journey to the Center of the Earth allows gamers to play as all three of the film’s main characters as they search for a passage to the surface while navigating through all seven of the exotic underground worlds featured in the movie. In addition, a variety of mini-games will allow users to climb rocks, dig for dinosaur bones and raft across an ancient sea.

Based on the classic Jules Verne novel, Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3-D stars Brendan Fraser (The Mummy trilogy) as a science professor whose untraditional hypotheses have made him the laughing stock of the academic community. While on an expedition in Iceland, he and his nephew stumble upon a major discovery that leads them deep beneath the Earth’s surface, where they travel through never-before-seen worlds and encounter a variety of unusual creatures brought to life with CG animation. A co-venture between New Line Cinema and Walden Media, the pic is directed by Academy Award-winning visual effects veteran Eric Brevig (Pearl Harbor, Total Recall) and features effects by Mokko Studio, Frantic Films, Hybride, Meteor Studios, Rodeo FX and Amalgamated Pixels.
