As part of its efforts to promote the new video game God of War, Sony has teamed with broadband network Heavy.com to launch a new animated series that employs the game engine technique known as Machinima. The project, to be available exclusively at www.heavy.com, marks the first time a studio has endorsed Machinima for a broadcast-scale audience.
The God of War Machinima is titled Pimp My Weapon. The production takes Kratos, the game’s fearsome, revenge-driven Spartan warrior, and transforms him into Ron Johnson, host of a How-To program on creating the ultimate weapons and the proper way to bust skulls.
Heavy.com says it receives more than 5 million unique viewers monthly, reaching 65 million fans. The site broadcasts thousands of hours of video shorts, Machinima, music, games and radio programs. Favorites include Behind the Music that Sucks, Contagious and Red vs. Blue.
