Punisher Set to Dole Out Justice on PS 2, Xbox

As Artisan gets set to release its big-screen take on Marvel Comics’ The Punisher this April, THQ Inc. has announced plans to bring the popular vigilante property to PlayStation 2 and Xbox players. Developed by THQ’s internal studio, Volition Inc., the game is scheduled to debut in fall of 2004.

The Punisher video game promises to deliver the best of more than 30 years of Punisher comic books, depicting some of the grittiest storylines in the Marvel Universe. The property centers on government agent Frank Castle, who loses his family and becomes a one-man army with a personal vendeta against the criminal underground.

Muscle-bound actor Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, Universal Soldier) brought Frank Castle to the screen in New World Pictures’ largely ignored 1989 feature. The upcoming incarnation stars Thomas Jane in the lead role, with John Travolta, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Roy Sheider heading up the supporting cast.
