The Walt Disney Co.’s Buena Vista Games is going into development on a series of interactive titles based on the upcoming big-screen sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. The first set of games will roll out for the PSP and Nintendo DS handhelds in conjunction with the film’s summer 2006 bow.
In the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest games, gamers will be able to play as Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann as they swashbuckle across land and sea in search of the legendary Dead Man’s Chest. The handheld titles are being developed by Seattle-based Amaze Ent. and Griptonite Games.
In addition, UK-based developer Eurocom, which has contributed to the James Bond, Harry Potter and Crash Bandicoot game franchises, has been signed to create future Pirates games for the upcoming next generation consoles.
Stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will return for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski. The pic is filming in Los Angeles and the Caribbean for release in July 2006.
