Disney has bought Warren Spector’s Junction Point Studios in an effort to continue fortifying its game-publishing arm. Based in Austin, Texas, Junction Point will continue to create games based on Disney characters, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Gaming visionary Spector has designed and produced video games such as Deus Ex, Thief and Ultima Underworld I in the over the past 16 years. He established Junction Point only two years ago.

Junction Point joins Avalanche Software, Fall Line Studio, Propaganda Games and Climax Racing as hot game developers who were acquired by Disney to beef up its interactive division. Some see this as chief exec Robert Iger’s way of moving the interactive unit toward game publishing and away from licensing.
