In a move that will undoubtedly bring more “bump” for a gamer’s buck, San Jose, Calif.-based Immersion Corp. announces two new licensing agreements in Taiwan for its haptic feedback technology.
ShenZhen Futime Co. Ltd. is now shipping its first Immersion licensed product, a multi-platform force feedback wheel for PlayStation2, GameCube, and Xbox. Separately, Padix Co. Ltd. is making a family of force feedback game pads, joysticks and racing wheels for PC gaming.
Haptic technologies like those from Immersion allow gamers to literally feel the road. Force feedback gives the “in-hand” impression of, for instance, a gravel road or a crash with a guardrail.
Immersion’s Jeffrey Eid, VP, computing and consumer business unit explains that, “Having our force feedback capabilities licensed by companies in China and Taiwan broadens Immersion’s scope in Asia. Both ShenZhen Futime and Padix are third-party manufacturers, so they have the capability to promote force feedback technology to gaming retailers who don’t have their own manufacturing facilities.”
