With the game industry getting bigger than the film biz, it’s about time the stars of the interactive world had a place to leave their handprints. San Francisco’s Metreon, a Sony Entertainment Center, today announced plans to launch the video game industry’s version of Hollywood’s walk of fame to commemorate some of pop culture’s most indelible digital icons.
With San Francisco being home to many gaming firms, including Electronic Arts, PlayStation and Sega, Metreon offers a prime location for honoring the top creative forces in the industry.
“Walk of Game pays tribute to an industry that has had an overwhelming impact on pop culture,” states Eva Miranda, senior VP and general manager of Metreon. “Metreon is proud to celebrate the global gaming culture’s most dynamic icons.”
The venue will be launching a web site in October of 2003 as a sounding board for gamers worldwide to get involved in the selection of future honorees.
Metreon, a business unit of Sony Corporation of America, is located at Fourth and Mission streets in San Francisco at Yerba Buena Gardens. Covering 350,000 square feet on four levels, the facility houses Bay Area-based restaurants, shopping venues, cinemas and the largest IMAX theatre in North America.
