Electronic Arts announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King game has begun to ship nationwide on all platforms. The third-person action title will be available in stores everywhere for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC and Game Boy Advance on Nov. 6.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is EA’s second action adventure game based on author J.R.R. Tolkein’s classic trilogy and New Line Cinema’s big-screen adaptations. The title includes sneak peeks at actual footage from the upcoming film, scheduled for release on Dec. 17. In addition, more than 200,000 production assets from the movie were used in the game’s development. Cast members from the movies provide voiceovers, while motion capture data from the movie stunt team and a musical score composed by Academy Award winner Howard Shore further bring the experience to life.
An all-new multiplayer cooperative mode will let players form their own Fellowship before embarking on their journey to cast the ring into the Crack of Doom. The PlayStation 2 version features two-player online cooperative play throughout the game’s 15 levels.
The Lord the Rings: The Return of the King, developed by EA Redwood Shores Studio (Amaze Ent. for Game Boy Advance), is rated “T” (Teen) and retails for $49.95 on console platforms and $39.95 for PC and Game Boy Advance. For more information, see http://lordoftherings.eagames.com.
EA is currently in development on the real-time PC strategy game The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth for release in 2004.
