E3 News: Movies to Unspool on Game Boy Advance

TuneIn Ent., a multimedia distributor for handheld devices, has teamed up with Pocketainment to market and distribute a plug-and-play adapter for playing feature films, video and MP3s on Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance and Gameboy Advance SP. The companies debuted the Pocket Pix Cartridge at E3 in Los Angeles.

The adapter is designed to fit into the device’s plug-in card slot and features compression software that allows for up to 75 minutes of video and audio onto a standard 64MB SD card. The cartridge comes equipped with 32MB of internal memory, an SD multimedia slot for additional storage, a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, stereo headphones, a free sample movie, code to download another free film and a USB port to transfer content.

The Pocket Pix Cartridge will hit retail stores shortly and will carry a suggested retail price of $79.95. The package will also include a syncing cable, a CD-ROM with a sample film and a code to download a free film. New films will be released each month. The device will also be available minus the SD media card for $59.95 at www.filminhand.com.

AM3 inc. was also at E3 with its own plug-and-play media player adapter for Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP. The adapter accepts Toshiba SmartMedia storage cards on which the company is distributing 30-minute anime titles.
