Zamm to Direct Hong Kong Phooey Movie

Alex Zamm is set to direct Alcon Entertainment’s movie version of Hong Kong Phooey, a popular 1970s Saturday-morning cartoon series produced by Hanna-Barbera.

Zamm’s credits include the video features Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts and Inspector Gadget 2.

The film will be a mix of live action and animation, with the script by David Goodman, an executive producer on Family Guy, reports Variety.

Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, both of Alcon, are producing the film along with X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner and Jay Stern.

The series, which featured Scatman Crothers in the lead role, was about a dog working as a police-station janitor who would jump into a filing cabinet and transform into a kung-fu superhero.
