Witherspoon Coifed for Disney’s Rapunzel

Daily Variety Reports that film star Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions) and Tony-winning Broadway performer Kristin Chenoweth (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Wicked) are in talks to join the voice cast of Disney’s upcoming CG feature, Rapunzel Unbraided.

Unbraided is listed as being in preproduction with master Mouse House character animator Glen Keane attached to direct from a script by Runaway Bride scribes Sarah Parriott and Josie McGibbon. Phil Lofaro will produce the updated comic twist on the classic fairy tale.

Following on the heels of Shrek and Shrek 2, DreamWorks’ hugely successful take on fairy tales, the project continues the time-honored animation production parallel that seems to exist between Disney and DreamWorks.

Chenoweth is set to appear in the upcoming remake of The Pink Panther, starring Steve Martin and featuring a CG Pink Panther, while Witherspoon can be seen in the upcoming period pic, Vanity Fair.
