Comedic actor Will Ferrell was able to re-animate Saturday Night Live and now Universal Pictures and Imagine Ent. are tapping his unique energy for their upcoming 2D animated Curious George feature. The star of the hit comedy Old School and upcoming holiday offering Elf will provide the voice of The Man in the Yellow Hat for the big-screen adaptation of the classic children’s book series by Margaret and H.A. Rey.
Currently in pre-production for release on Nov. 4, 2005, Curious George will be directed by The Tigger Movie helmer Jun Falkenstein, and produced by Imagines Award-winning toppers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. The screenplay was penned by Monsters Inc. scribes Daniel Gerson and Rob Baird; Shrek and Shrek 2 writer Joe Stillman; and Austin Powers alum Michael McCullers, who is also scripting the upcoming Thunderbirds feature.
George is just one project in a full slate for Ferrell, who will follow Elf with the early 2004 release Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, which he co-wrote with SNL writer Adam McKay. In addition, he is currently in production on the next as-yet-untitled Woody Allen film, to be followed by Winter’s Passing with Ed Harris, Zooey Deschanel and Amelia Warner.
