Los Angeles-based Visionbox Pictures and X-42 Prods. are teaming up to produce the 3D animated feature film The Chosen One. The film will combine comedy and comic book action to weave a tale about competitive gods and innocent bystanders in a world rapidly going to hell.
The Chosen One was written by and Chris Lackey (writer/director of the animated online series The Investigators, which won Atom Films’ Greenlight Award and was nominated for a 2002 DVD Premiere Award) and Chad Fifer. Lackey is also directing.
Among the actors signed on for the voice cast are Tim Curry (The Wild Thornberrys Movie, Rocky Horror Picture Show), Lance Henrikson (Aliens, Millennium), Traci Elizabeth Lords (Blade, Melrose Place), Chris Sarandon (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Dog Day Afternoon), Laura Prepon (That 70s Show), Debra Wilson (Mad TV) and Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World).
The story centers on Lou Hanske, an average 25-year-old Iowan who one day gets dumped by his girlfriend (Prepon), is fired from his job and has his car totaled by a falling satellite. On top of it all, he is singled out by Reverend Akia May (Wilson) of the new age Church of Frank as The Chosen One. With coworker Donna (Fishel), the cantankerous Zeb (Sarandon) and a certain Prince of Hell known as Lucifer (Curry), Lou must overcome ninjas, thugs and femme fatales in order to find God, fulfill his destiny and temporarily bring everlasting peace to the world.
The film will be produced by John Manulis of Visionbox and Andreas Olavarria of X-42 Prods. Exec. producer duties go to Visionbox Media Group president Chris Miller and the company’s managing producer, Lulu Zezza. Diana Tauder (English-dubbed versions of Il Postino, Princess Mononoke and That’s the Way I Like It) serves as associate producer.
The Chosen One will be created primarily on Lightwave systems, with all the animation being done in Los Angeles. Elliot Lorman (Babylon 5) will serve as director of animation.
