Monty Python alum Terry Jones and quirky pop star-turned-actress Bj’rk will lend their voices to the animated film Anna and the Moods, currently in development at CAOZ Ltd. in Reykjavik, Iceland. The half-hour CG film is scheduled for release in Reykjavik in late 2004.
Jones will serve as narrator for the film. In addition to classic animated bits on the Python TV series and feature films, the actor has voiced characters in the 2000 German animated feature “Help, I’m A Fish” and the 2002 ABC TV miniseries Dinotopia.
Björk, who won Best Performance by an Actress at the Cannes film festival for her role in Lars von Trier’s indie feature Dancer in the Dark, will provide the voice of the title character in the animated movie. Anna is a the perfect child who one day wakes up looking more like Marilyn Manson than Mary Tyler Moore.
Gunnar Karlsson is directing from a story and screenplay by Academy Award nominee Sjón. Hilmar Sigurdsson serves as exec. producer. The film’s music is composed by Julian Nott and performed by the Brodsky Quartet.
Anna and the Moods will be presented at this year Cartoon Forum in Varese, Italy, where an all new trailer for the film will premier. The film received a script grant from the Icelandic Film Center and Northern Lights Communications has acquired Icelandic theatre, sell-through and TV rights for air on their own Channel 2.
CAOZ Ltd.’s first animated film, The Lost Little Caterpillar, set a local box-office record for a short and received two EDDA awards at the Icelandic Film & TV academy awards in November 2002. The film has been showing at numerous film festivals around the world.
