Daily Variety reports that Dimension Films has signed a director to its feature adaptation of the Namco fighting game, Tekken. Charles Stone (Drumline) will helm the $60 million CG-infused effects film co-financed by Japan’s Gaga Communications and Steven Paul’s Crystal Sky Group.
Dimension co-presidents Andrew Rona and Brad Weston are Supervising the production, working under Bob Weinstein. Director Stone and Dimension previously collaborated on the gangsta pic “Paid in Full.” Stone is also working on the Bernie Mac vehicle Mr. 3000, set for release on Sept. 24 through Disney’s Touchstone Pictures.
Namco is previewing the fifth installment in the Tekken game series at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles this week. Tekken 5 is scheduled for release in 2005.
