‘Tangled’ Climbs to Top Spot at the Box Office

Tangled may have lost the first round to the boy wizard, but Disney’s 50th animated feature is showing its got some legs (as well as lovely locks of hair) by ascending to the top of the box office its second week out.

The 50th animated feature film from Walt Disney Animation Studios grossed $21 million over the weekend, beating out the $17 million take for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. That brings the domestic gross for Tangled to $96 million. Its foreign take totals about $45 million to date, giving the film a worldwide total of $142 million.

Hallows, meanwhile, has earned $244 million domestic and a whopping $469 international for a total of $715 million.

DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind landed in sixth place with just under $5 million taken in in its fifth weekend of release. Megamind has grossed $136 million domestically and $48 million abroad for a total of about$185 million. The film has yet to open in several major foreign markets.
