Sure, he can shoot webs and climb up buildings, but can he sing and dance? Daily Variety reports that Victor/Victoria producer Tony Adams and Marvel Comics are said to be in talks to bring the Spider-Man comic book and feature film franchise to the stage in the form of a musical production.
Director/screenwriter Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) is reportedly being courted to write a musical adaptation of the Marvel property, and U2 band members Bono and the Edge are said to be the top choice for songwriting duties. Attached to direct the show is Julie Taymor, who previously met success bringing Disney’s animated favorite The Lion King to the Broadway stage.
Variety notes that neither Adams nor Marvel have confirmed plans for Spider-Man: The Musical. Still, rumors of an Andrew-Lloyd Webslinger are not hard to believe since the silver screen is now routinely mined by Broadway producers. In addition to the aforementioned Victor/Victoria and The Lion King, such films as Beauty and the Beast, The Producers and Hairspray have translated to theater box-office gold in recent years. Also in the pipeline are shows based on The Lord of the Rings and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
