Sony Plans Big-Screen ChubbChubbs

Daily Variety reports that Sony Pictures Imageworks’ Academy Award-winning CG short film The ChubbChubbs will become a feature-length project for Sony Pictures Animation. Another short is scheduled to hit theaters next summer, but the feature won’t be completed until at least 2005.

Writers Dan Wilson and Dave Gilbreth have been brought on to expand the world of an intergalactic janitor and his cute-but-lethal friends. While Stuart Little 2 animation supervisor Eric Armstrong directed the short version, it is not yet known whether he or another director will helm the feature.

Expect to see the razor-mouthed balls of fluff hitting store shelves as well. Toymaker Toy Play LLC was recently master toy licensee for the ChubbChubbs licensing program.
