Stellan and Alexander Skarsgard and Peter Stormare have been cast as the lead voice actors in the stereoscopic 3-D animated adaptation of Moomins and the Comet Chase.
The film is being produced by Finnish company Oy Filmkompaniet, and is the first digital stereoscopic 3-D film produced in a Nordic country.
Based on the popular books and comics by Tove Jansson, the Moomins are a family of trolls who look like white hippos. Stellan Skarsgard will voice Moominpapa, while his son, Alexander, will play Moomintroll. Stormare will play Snufkin.
Maria Lindberg is directing from a script by Joel Backstrom, Iivo Baric, Anders Larsson, and Minna Karvonen. Oy Filmkompaniet CEO Tom Carpelan is producer of the film, which also will feature original music from Bj’rk along with Andrzej Rokicki.
‘The Moomins are one of the best-loved animated properties in the world, and this is their biggest adventure yet,’ said Tom Carpelan. ‘The support and commitment from the talent, who themselves grew up with the Moomins and have been fans throughout their lives, is wonderful. We’re thrilled to be working with such a phenomenal cast and production team on this 3-D animated feature for families worldwide.
Moomins and the Comet Chase is in post-production and due in theaters this fall.
