Simpson Movie Set for July 2007

Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie are now officially ready for their big-screen close-ups! After years of promising, Fox, Matt Groening and James L. Brookes have finalized plans for the big Simpsons feature movie. So what is the evidence that the big moment is finally here? A Simpsons teaser trailer hit the big screen this weekend during the debut of Ice Age: The Meltdown. The announced release date is July 27, 2007.

David Silverman, co-director of Pixar Animation Studios’ Monsters, Inc., is directing the movie. In the past, Silverman has directed a number of Simpsons episodes. True to its 2D roots, the film is being produced by 160 animators at Film Roman in Burbank.

According to published reports, longtime producer James L. Brooks told Fox that a surprise teaser would be the best way to announce the long-awaited film. With just three weeks to assemble it, the studio worked in secret with Brooks, Simpsons creator Matt Groening and writers Al Jean and Mike Scully.

The script for the Simpson family’s big movie adventure is co-written by Scully, Groening, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, Matt Selman, John Swartzwelder and Jon Vitti. The voice cast features regulars Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Pamela Hayden and Tress MacNeille. Plot details are in the hush-hush stage!
