Shrek fans will soon have a new reason to visit Universal Studios. The movie-based theme parks have teamed with DreamWorks to create the multi-sensory Shrek 4D attraction, which will open simultaneously at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Japan this summer.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow reprise their rolls for the experience, which also incorporates 15 minutes of all-new 3D animation and sensory immersion to pick up the story where DreamWorks’ Oscar-winning feature film left off and bridge the gap between the original and the upcoming sequel.
The tale begins as Shrek, Princess Fiona and their companion, Donkey set off for a honeymoon at the enchanting Fairytale Falls, only to encounter the vengeful ghost of Lord Farquaad. Highlights will include an aerial dogfight between fire-breathing dragons and a steep plunge down a 300-foot waterfall.
Shrek 4-D will mark the first animation to be created for a theme park by the animation wizards at PDI, the creators of Shrek and Antz. David Lipman, co-executive producer for Shrek and producer of Shrek II, will produce the theme park attraction.
