Sony Pictures Animation has teamed up with Frederator Studios founder Fred Seibert to develop ideas for new animated feature films.
Seibert, a former president of Hanna-Barbera Productions, founded Frederator in 1998 and has developed it into one of the most successful independent animation studios. The studio has more than 100 projects in active development and production as feature films, TV shows and internet content. It has several series currently airing on various broadcast and cable networks, including The Fairly OddParents, My Life As A Teenage Robot, Ape Escape Cartoons and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!.
The announcement was made by Bob Osher, president of Sony Pictures Digital Productions, and Hannah Minghella, president of production for Sony Pictures Animation.
“Frederator Studios is thrilled to be working with Bob, Hannah, and their team at Sony Pictures Animation,” said Fred Seibert. “They’ve given us a unique opportunity to further develop our incubator for big animation ideas.”
In addition to his stint at Hanna-Barbera and founding Frederator, Seibert launched in 2006 Next New Networks, which has launched 25 online micro-networks. Early career highlights include being the original creative director for MTV and helping transform Nickelodeon into a top cable network.
Sony Pictures Animation’s next feature project, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, opens Sept. 18.
