A sequel to the CG-animated video game adaptation Resident Evil: Degeneration is in the works from Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan, according to Variety.
The two companies say the co-production, titled Resident Evil: Damnation, is in production and set for release in 2012. Makoto Kamiya is directing the film and supervising the effects, the trade reports.
The first film had a limited theatrical release in Japan but was a worldwide success on DVD.
The horror video game series has tallied five releases since its 1996 debut and has inspired four live-action feature films, including the current release Resident Evil: Afterlife.
