Looks like Sony Pictures Animation is getting familiar with Spider-Man director Sam Raimi.
The studio is in discussions with Raimi and partner Josh Donen to produce a film based on The Familiars, an upcoming series of children’s fantasy books by Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio picked up the rights to the book series for low- to mid-seven figures.
The trade reports that Epstein and Jacobson, who co-wrote Dimension’s Extreme Movie, had originally pitched the series as a feature, but opted to establish it first as a publishing property, selling the rights to HarperCollins Children at Book Expo America.
The writing pair was already working with Raimi and Donen at Stars Road Entertainment on a script for the upcoming action film The Transplants, and interested them in the project by showing them the book proposal.
