Having conquered the Star Wars universe, Natalie Portman is setting her sights on Marvel and Asgard, signing on to the comic-book studio’s upcoming Thor feature film.
Portman will play an updated version of Jane Foster, a nurse who becomes a love interest for Thor.
In the Marvel version of Thor, created in 1962 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Norse god Odin banishes his son, the thunder god Thor, to learn a lesson in humility on Earth. In the humble guise of Dr. Don Blake, Thor rediscovers his power and falls in love with his nurse, Foster.
Kenneth Branagh is directing the film, which stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor and is set to begin production early next year.
Thor is due to be released May 20, 2011.
