Out of Our Minds’ First Feature is Magistical

Having earned a number of awards for its short films, Out of Our Minds Animation Studios has sets its sights on making its first feature, a fairytale titled The Magistical. Tony award-winner Geoffrey Holder (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) has come on board as the story’s narrator, and world music stars Bobby McFerrin, Gaelic Storm and Celtic Woman will contribute to the soundtrack.

The Magistical takes place in a world of dragons and mystics, where a boy must find the courage to save those he loves. The voice cast includes Megan Blake, Beth Bostic, Lee Strickland, Debra Terry, Stan Bernstein, Ray Collins, Gene Johnson and Ashley Summerrow.

John Cernak, founder of Out of Our Minds, says he wanted to create an animated movie modeled after Disney films from the 1940s and 50s. ‘We wanted to make an original fairy tale that would be as relevant 50 years from now as it is today,’ he comments. ‘When you consider that Snow White is 70 this year, it is obvious that these movies fill a void for a type of children’s film that is rarely seen. We don’t want to play it safe with quick laughs and pop culture references that will be lost in 10 years.’

Out of Our Minds’ animated shorts which have won nearly 100 awards at film festivals worldwide, and its Dear, Sweet Emma garnered a 2004 British BAFTA nomination for best animated short. The company plans to have The Magistical completed and ready for distribution in the fall. The pic is being produced by CRE8-3D Films LLC. with James J. Woodcock and Bruce V. Roberts serving as exec producers. For more information on The Magistical, go to (www.themagistical.com)
