On Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7:00 p.m., the American Cinematheque will present “A One-Night Tribute to Ray Harryhausen” at the historic Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Animation Magazine is sponsoring the event, which will feature a live appearance by the master of stop-motion animation and visual effects, as well as the official premiere of his recently completed short The Tortoise and The Hare.
Joining Harryhausen in person will be Mark Caballero and Seamus Walsh, the two local animators who helped complete Tortoise. The 10-minute short, part of Harryhausen’s fairy tale series, was abandoned 50 years ago when the lucrative business of making movie monsters took precedence.
The premiere will be followed by screenings of newly restored 35mm prints of Harryhausen classics The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad (1974) and The Mysterious Island (1961).
Schedules permitting, Harryhausen, Walsh and Caballero will be on hand for discussion between the films.
Tickets for this event should sell fast. For more information, visit www.americancinematheque.com. Read more about the making of The Tortoise and the Hare in the November issue of Animation Magazine.
