Some guys like Betty, others go for Veronica. Apparently, Miramax Films wants them both for a possible film franchise. The studio is joining forces with Archie Comics Ent. LLC to co-produce a major live-action theatrical motion picture based on the popular comic book icons.
Betty & Veronica will be aimed at teen moviegoers who are too young to even know about the Archie comics. Miramax is banking on the enduring and universal appeal of Riverside High School’s blonde and brunette heartthrobs first introduced in 1941.
CEO Chuck Grimes will oversee the production on behalf of Archie Comics Ent, while company president Allan I. Grafman serves as an exec. producer. Michael Silberkleit and Richard Goldwater are on board as associate producers.
Michelle Raimo, senior VP of production and development, will oversee the production on behalf of Miramax, with Meryl Poster, co-president of production.
The announcement of the motion picture comes only four months after Archie Comics Ent. was co-founded as the entertainment and licensing arm of comic book publisher Archie Comic Publications Inc. by Silberkleit, Goldwater, Grimes and Grafman.
