Piet De Rycker and Thilo Rothkirch’s charming 2004 feature Laura’s Star will be getting a sequel, thanks to a $562,000 funding package from German organization Medienboard Berlin-Brandenberg. The feature, titled Laura’s Star in China will be produced by Rothkirch Cartoon Film.

The original 2D animated project centered on the adventures of a young girl whose life changes when she discovers a fallen star. Released by Warner Bros. internationally, Laura’s Star took in a healthy $7.5 million at the German box office and nabbed the best children’s film at the German Film Awards in 2005. The English-language DVD of the film was released in the U.S. last year.
