DreamWorks Animation announced today that it will offer a new animated Rocky & Bullwinkle, short featuring the legendary June Foray as the voice of Rocket “Rocky” J. Squirrel. The versatile voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, Tom Kenny, will voice Bullwinkle Moose. The short, which is directed by Gary Trousdale (Beauty and the Beast), will accompany the studio’s Mr. Peabody and Sherman feature in theaters on March 7.

“For an incredible 83 years, June Foray has left a tremendous imprint on the entire entertainment industry,” said exec producer Tiffany Ward. “Her amazingly indelible performances have enchanted generations and earned her a permanent place in the annals of popular culture.”

The original Rocky & Bullwinkle Show (originally titled Rocky and His Friends) began airing on November 19, 1959 with supporting segments which included Peabody’s Improbable History—upon which DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film Mr. Peabody and Sherman is based. Rocky, Bullwinkle, Natasha, Boris and a few other familiar faces get the show started with the all-new madcap adventure.

The short is produced by Denise Nolan Cascino (Megamind) and written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum).

I love Rocky and Bullwinkle! I know Dreamworks Animation SKG will do good making this short and I know that Gary Trousdale will do good directing it just like he did good a job directing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). I CAN’T WAIT! I LOVE ANIMATION!

This is a smart, loyal and brilliantly creative move for DreamWorks. Great to
know that there are some creative producers paying attention to the fan base and
still active talent like June. Keeping traditions alive in this youth driven
market is hard and it takes tenacity and forward thinking to make the
best decisions for the picture, which casting June clearly is. June is high on
my list of talent I hope to one day work with. It’s a feather in DreamWorks hat
to have June Foray once again flying high as Rocky. Nice work Tiffany,
    Denise and June!
