Prehistoric squirrel Scrat is after that acorn again, but this time there’s a Jurassic surprise waiting for him in the teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. The footage screened in theaters before 20th Century Fox Animation’s Horton Hears A Who!, and now it’s online at the film’s official website, www.iceagemovie.com. Dawn of the Dinosaurs was produced for stereoscopic 3-D presentation and is slated to open in July of 2009.
The third Ice Age installment is directed by Oscar nominee Carlos Saldanha, who helmed Ice Age: The Meltdown and co-directed the first film in the blockbuster series. Animation is again being handled by Blue Sky Studios, which was also responsible for the Fox toons Robots and Hortorn Hears A Who! Not much is known about the plot, aside from the premise that some dinosaurs have survived and are living in a tropical, subterranean environment.
The first two Ice Age films have collectively grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide and have also made a bundle on home video. This third chapter should also draw crowds as Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo and Queen Latifah return to voice the main characters.
