Award-winning Maltese production house Pro.Motion Limited, in collaboration with Malta Film Funds, is gearing up for production on the Mediterranean island nation’s first-ever full-length animated feature film, titled The Golden Calf. Production is set to begin in earnest next year.

The 3D animated flick centers on two eight-year-old cousins who embark on a treasure hunt across Malta and its sister island, Gozo, after hearing that the Biblical Golden Calf is hidden in the area. Their exciting island-hopping quest also unearths family secrets.

The animation team will be lead by Carmel Bonnici, managing director of Pro.Motion. Bonnici has worked on animation, animated credit sequences and motion graphics for television at the studio, which has produced over 5,000 hours of TV programming to date.
