Darby Conley’s United Media comic strip Get Fuzzy is on its way to becoming a live-action/CG-animated feature. According to a recent story in Daily Variety, director Kirk Wise (Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) is set to direct the project, set up by Sprocketdyne Entertainment. Rob Minkoff (Stuart Little, Haunted Mansion) is producing the film with partner Jason Clark and co-producer Warren Davis.
This past May, Get Fuzzy was named comic strip of the year by the National Cartoonists’ Society. Chronicling the misadventures of single guy Rob Wilco, his bossy cat Bucky and his gentle dog Satchel, Get Fuzzy appears in 400 newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News and the Chicago Tribune.
The final piece of the puzzle is the release studio, since Sprocketdyne’s producing deal at Sony expires in October, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Disney jumps on Fuzzy. Minkoff’s latest directing effort, Haunted Mansion will be out in theaters on November 26.
