Will the guinea pigs of G-Force be the able to steal the box office crown from the boy wizard?
That’s what Disney is hoping for the VFX-heavy family adventure movie, which stars CG guinea pigs and opens in nearly 3,700 theaters. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which has so far grossed more than $184 million at the domestic box office will not relinquish its title easily.
There’s plenty of counter programming out this weekend, with the horror film Orphan opening in 2,750 theaters and the romantic comedy The Ugly Truth, starring Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler and Cheryl Hines, making its way to 2,882 venues.
The animated Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen are also still hanging on and should continue to do good business.
