Fox tonight offers viewers a sneak preview of Twentieth Century Fox’s big-budget visual effects tour de force The Day After Tomorrow, which arrives in theaters Friday, May 28. The first ten minutes of the PG-13-rated film can be seen at 8:44 p.m. ET/PT.
Directed by Independence Day helmer Roland Emmerich, The Day After Tomorrow promises to be the ultimate disaster flick. Tornadoes rip Los Angeles, a massive snowstorm pounds New Delhi and grapefruit-sized hail batters Tokyo and New York City. And that’s just the beginning. Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ian Holm, Emmy Rossum and Sela Ward star as a sampling of the many people who struggle to survive when an abrupt climate change has cataclysmic consequences for the entire planet.
Charged with throwing Mother Earth into climatic chaos are the movie magic teams at Industrial Light & Magic, Digital Domain and The Orphanage under visual effects supervisor Karen E. Goulekas (Godzilla, Eight Legged Freaks). Read the June issue of Animation Magazine to learn how they pulled off the extreme weather sequences.
