Brave is Pixar’s major release for 2012, and the first images from the film have been released online at EW.com.

Set in the Highlands of Scotland, Brave tells the tale of a princess named Merida who accidentally breaks a sacred custom of her people and brings trouble to the land that she must find a way to fix. The film will feature the voices of Kelly Macdonald as Merida (replacing Reese Witherspoon, who had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts), Billy Connolloy and Emma Thompson as King Fergus and Queen Elinor, Kevin McKidd as Lord MacGuffin, Craig Ferguson as Lord Macintosh and Robbie Coltrane as Lord Dingwall.

Mark Andrews is directing the film. Brenda Chapman had conceived of the project and was set to direct it before departing last year She will retain a directing credit on Brave, which is set for release June 22, 2012.

Here are the images.

What do you think? Does this look like another hit for Pixar? Or could it end their amazing winning streak? Sound off in the comments.
