According to Daily Variety, Buena Vista Int’l Japan will invest in the computer-animated feature Brave Story, produced by Fuji Television and Gonzo Digimation. The Mouse House branch will also distribute the film locally in summer 2006. Worldwide distribution plans are still up in the air.
Brave Story is based on the best-selling, two-part novel by Miyuki Miyabe. The story centers on a 10-year-old who enters a magical world to find a cure for his mother’s illness. Koichi Chigira will direct the animated adaptation, which is reportedly budgeted at 1 billion yen ($9 million).
Production partnership between Fuji TV’s motion picture department and Gonzo began earlier this year when the former invested $3.2 million in the latter.
