Dimension Films is teaming with MGM to produce the action fantasy film Brothers Grimm. The live-action collaboration should include plenty of animated creatures and other visual effects.
Terry Gilliam (Twelve Monkeys, Time Bandits) has been tapped to direct from a script by Ehren Kruger (The Ring, Scream 3). Mosaic Media Group’s Charles Roven will produce, along with Daniel Bobker.
Kruger’s script weaves biography and fantasy by thrusting famed fairytale creators Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm into a real world of magic and peril. George Pal did something similar with the 1962 film The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm, which featured stop-motion animated special effects by Jim Danforth and others.
The new project has attracted the attention of actors Matt Damon, Heath Ledger and Robin Williams.
Dimension will oversee the production and release the film in North America. MGM will handle international distribution.
