Disney’s Steve Martin/Queen Latifah vehicle Bringing Down the House is No. 1 at the U.S. box office for a second week, despite a strong showing from MGM’s teen spy comedy Agent Cody Banks, starring Malcolm in the Middle’s Frankie Muniz.
Bringing Down the House brought in an estimated $22 million dollars for a two-week total of around $61 million. Cody Banks, featuring visual effects by Pixel Magic and Eyetronics, slipped in at No. 2 with an estimated $15. million Paramount’s The Hunted, Sony’s Tears of the Sun and Miramax’s Chicago round out the top five.
New Line’s effects-laden remake of Willard opened in only 1,761 theaters and managed an eighth place finish with around $4 million. Centropolis, The Character Shop and WTC Prods. all contributed effects work for the suspense thriller about a disturbed young man and his legion of killer rats.
