Clooney, Blanchett Dahled Up for Fox

As his latest live-action film, The Darjeeling Limited, is making the festival rounds, director Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic with With Steve Zissou, The Royal Tenenbaums) leaked some casting news regarding his first animated feature during a recent MTV interview. George Clooney (Ocean’s Thirteen) and Cate Blancehtt (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) will reportedly lend their voices to Anderson’s CG adaptation of the Roald Dahl book The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Clooney and Blanchett, who recently appeared together in director Stephen Soderberg’s The Good German, will play Mr. and Mrs. Fox, respectively. Also attached to the project are Anderson favorites Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) and Bill Murray (Rushmore, The Life Aquatic with With Steve Zissou) .

The Fantastic Mr. Fox tells the story of a sly fox who must come up with a new plan to feed his family when three imbecile farmers get fed up with his stealing. The movie is being produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation, and is slated to be released by Fox in November of 2009.

Anderson, who has in the past expressed an aversion to CG animation, originally toyed with the idea of making the movie with stop-motion and enlisting the talents of Henry Selick, director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. Selick oversaw the stop-motion sea creature effects for The Life Aquatic with With Steve Zissou.
