The Force is with Turner Broadcasting as five of its networks get set to air the world-premiere trailer for the upcoming CG-animated theatrical release Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, CNN and Boomerang will all broadcast the sneak peek on Thursday, May 8 at 7:58 p.m. in all U.S. time zones. The two-minute preview will then be available exclusively at the official Star Wars website, www.starwars.com, before debuting in theaters on Friday, May 9, along with the first poster for the movie. Warner Bros. will release the movie in theaters on Aug. 15.
From George Lucas and Lucasfilm Animation comes the latest chapter in the Star War saga. Star Wars: The Clone Wars fills in some gaps in the story not covered by the live-action movies and the animated Cartoon Network micro-series, Star Wars: Clone Wars. Out to stop such sinister villains as Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous from taking over the galaxy are brave rebels including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padm’ Amidala, along with brand-new heroes including Anakin’s padawan learner, Ahsoka.
The theatrical event will set the stage for the weekly animated series premiering this fall on Cartoon Network, with encore airings on TNT. As for the trailer premeire, it marks the first time that a theatrical movie promo has received a simultaneous, cross-network airing on Turner Networks.
Based in Marin County, Calif., with a studio in Singapore, Lucasfilm Animation has produced more than 30 episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Fans of the franchise can now go to www.starwars.com to watch a series of web documentaries that chronicle the development of the new show.
