L.A.’s stop-motion masters the Chiodo Brothers will be working on a new psychological thriller about a claymation artist living in an idyllic English town. Titled Born, the movie will be produced by Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth), Lawrence Gordon and Lloyd Levin and exec produced by horror author Clive Barker, according to a story in Daily Variety today. Daniel Simpson (The Uninvited) is set to direct the movie.
Known for their work on features such as Elf and Team America, the Chiodo Brothers team will create the stop-motion animated sequences required for the project. The script centers on a claymation artist and his wife (played by real-life husband-and-wife thesps Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany) who move to a charming English village to raise a family. Things take a sinister turn when they find out that the husband’s claymation creations acting out a nightmare that comes to life. Simpsons wrote the script with Barker and Paul Kaye.
Born will start production in mid-August in the U.K. It’s the first project from L.A.’s finance and production company ClearVision Media Production Group, led by Melissa Wegman. Former Dimension production exec Louis Spiegler is ClearVision’s senior VP of motion picture production and development and Sarah Wexler is the unit’s VP of acquisitions, development and production. The feature is aiming for a 2008 release date.
