Cast, Date Set for DreamWorks’ Bee Movie

DreamWorks Animation has set a Nov. 2, 2007 release date for its CG Bee Movie, which is co-written by, produced by and starring Jerry Seinfeld. The studio has also announced some cast members who will be joining Seinfeld and Renee Zellweger, who just recently lent her voice to DreamWorks’ Shark Tale.

As with Shark Tale, Bee Movie will boast an all-star cast including Uma Thurman (Kill Bill), Kathy Bates (Popey’s Voyage: The Quest for Pappy), Eric Idle (the Monty Python movies and series) Alan Arkin (Disney’s The Rocketeer), Robert Duvall (The Godfather: The Game), William H. Macy (The Cooler), Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) , Patrick Warburton (The Emperor’s New Groove), Larry King (Shrek 2) and talk show queen Oprah Winfrey. Negotiations are also underway with Matthew Broderick, who is currently reprising his stage role in The Producers for the big screen.

Bee Movie will follow the debut of DreamWork’s Shrek 3, which is currently slated to arrive in theaters on May 18, 2007. Sony’s Surf’s Up and Pixar’s yet unnamed post-Disney pic are also expected during the year.

In Bee Movie, Seinfeld voices the role of Barry B. Benson, a recent college graduate who wants to do more with his life than make honey. He ventures out of the hive, meets a florist named Vanessa (Zellweger) and decides to sue the human race for stealing honey from bees. Seinfeld wrote the script with Barry Marder, Spike Feresten (The Simpsons, Space Ghost Coast to Coast) and Andy Robin (Seinfeld, Saturday Night Live).

The animated comedy will be directed by Steve Hickner (The Prince of Egypt) “The Prince of Egypt”Theeandaand Simon J. Smith (the Shrek 4-D amusement park attraction). Producer duties go to Christina Steinberg (National Treasure).
