Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) is in negotiations to voice the new villain in Despicable Me 2, the sequel to Universal/Illumination’s 2010 hit. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bardem will play a new bad guy called El Macho, who is the father of Machito.

Universal has set a July 3, 2012 release for Despicable Me 2, which is being directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud. Steve Carell and most of the other cast members from the original movie are expected to return.
