After stealing the show with his portrayal of Puss In Boots in Shrek 2 and reprising the role in Shrek the Third, actor Antonio Banderas is reportedly starting up his own animation production company. Daily Variety reports that his Spain-based Green Moon Producciones has joined forces with Spanish animation studio Kandor Graphics to launch a yet unnamed company dedicated to producing five animated features over the next decade. The entities will each have a 50% stake in the joint venture.
The first film to be produced under the new umbrella is The Missing Lynx, yet another Noah’s Ark-themed toon about a group of animals plotting to escape a mad millionaire’s plan to replicate the biblical feat. Already in production, the movie is being directed by Kandor partners Manuel Sicilia and Raul Garcia, who has worked as an animator for Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks Animation. Enrique Posner’s YaYa! Films and Manuel Cristobal’s Perro Verde are also producing, and Spain’s 6 Sales is drumming up international sales at this year’s American Film Market.
There’s no word on whether or not Bandaras will be lending his voice to Missing Linx or any of the other animated features to emerge from the venture. He can be heard once again as the voice of Puss In Boots in the holiday television special Shrek the Halls, which will air on the ABC network on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. (ET).
